Is a TAU master's research-based or coursework-based?
It depends on the program. Research MSc programs in engineering, the life sciences and medicine are built around a thesis written under a faculty supervisor. Most MA programs are coursework-based, with an optional thesis year in programs including Security and Diplomacy, Conflict Resolution and Mediation, TESOL, Environmental Studies, and Archaeology and Ancient Near Eastern Cultures.
What are the admission requirements for a master's at Tel Aviv University?
Every program requires a completed bachelor's degree and proof of English proficiency. The minimum grade average and any subject prerequisites are set program by program: the Security and Diplomacy MA accepts a bachelor's in any field with a GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale (80 on a 100 scale), while the Mechanical Engineering MSc requires a BSc in engineering with an average of 85 or above on the Israeli scale.
Are any master's programs at Tel Aviv University tuition-free?
Yes. In 2026–27 the Biomedical Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences and Neuroscience MSc programs are tuition-free, as are the research track of the Environmental Engineering MSc and the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music MMus.
