Tel Aviv University Scholarships

 

Tel Aviv University offers to match Postdoctoral scholarships for one year for new postdocs at the beginning of their academic career. 100% scholarship amounts to approximately 68,000 NIS (50% funded by the University and the remaining sum matched by the fellow's supervisor). The scholarship will be granted for one year.

 

50% provided by the University and the remaining sum matched by the supervisor:

  • 50% for Israeli fellow.
  • 100% for international fellow.

EACH SUPERVISOR MAY SUBMIT ONE CANDIDATE ONLY.  

 

Eligible to apply:

  • New fellows only or Postdoctoral fellows that will begin their fellowship at Tel Aviv University after April 1, 2024.
  • A candidate must have received their doctoral degree within five years prior to the start of the fellowship (October 2024).
  • Candidates who have yet to submit their dissertation by the date of the deadline, should submit all the documents by March 25, 2024. Winners of the fellowship must produce a certificate of eligibility for PhD degree or a written proof of submission of the PhD thesis for review, no later than September 1, 2024. Candidates who will fail to submit such a document by September 1st, will not be able to begin their fellowship and their scholarship will be immediately transferred to a candidate on the reserve list.

 

Not eligible to apply:

  • Tel Aviv University PhD graduates (unless they completed a postdoctoral fellowship in a leading university elsewhere).
  • Tel Aviv University employees.

 

Supporting Documents (must be submitted to the Research Students Office):

  • PhD diploma or certificate of eligibility noting the date the degree was awarded, or a written proof of submission of the PhD thesis for review.
  • A letter from a senior faculty member at TAU willing to serve as the fellow's supervisor and commit to finance the matching scholarship.
  • A letter from the head of the department (at Tel Aviv University), confirming the fellowship.
  • Letters of recommendation, as follows:
    • A letter from PhD supervisor(s) (all supervisors must submit a letter of recommendation).
    • A letter from a researcher outside of the university in which the candidate completed their doctoral studies.
    • An additional letter of recommendation, from a researcher affiliated with a recognized academic institution, per the candidate's choice.
  • A short research proposal (1-2 pages).
  • Current CV, including a list of publications.
  • An application form.

 

The applications will be reviewed by TAU's Postdoctoral Committee.

Fulbright Awards for US citizens

 

Fulbright Israel administers the Fulbright Academic Program in Israel and awards fellowships to U.S. postdoctoral scholars who seek to pursue research in Israel. Grants are open to researchers in all academic disciplines and support research programs in Israel for up to 20 months (two academic years).

Each candidate should be responsible for the arrangement of his/her institutional affiliations in Israel independently, including the development of the research program for the proposed visit through contacts with a possible host. According to Fulbright Israel policy, Fulbright postdoctoral fellows must hold official postdoctoral fellow status at their host institutions in Israel, including access to campus resources. Proof of such a letter is not required at the time of application.

The Azrieli International Postdoctoral Fellowship

The fellowship – now open to applicants from around the globe – offers funding of approximately EUR 58,000 (ILS 188,000) for 24 postdocs per year.

Azrieli Postdoctoral Fellows can conduct research in any academic discipline at eligible institutions in Israel.

Below you will find all the relevant information for the application process. Please note that candidates are required to secure an academic sponsor prior to applying.

 

 

The Pikovsky Valazzi Scholarship: 50% provided by Pikovsky Valazzi Fund and the remaining sum matched by the supervisor:

  • 50% for Israeli fellow. 
  • 100% for international fellow.

This scholarship will be offered for research in the fields of applied electronics, biotechnology and applied physics, that could be potentially utilized in science based industries.
 
 
The fellowship is offered for one academic year, under the supervision of a senior faculty member at TAU. The fellow will not be considered a University employee, and will leave the research group at the end of the fellowship. An extension of the fellowship for an additional period will be possible only if funded fully by the supervisor.
