U.S. Veterans Affairs (V.A.) Benefits

 

If you are a Veteran, or Veteran’s dependent, who is entitled to V.A. (Veterans Affairs) Benefits, then you may be able to claim those benefits if you enroll at Tel Aviv University’s Lowy International School on a V.A. approved course provided you complete some important steps outlined below in the application process section.

How Can I Check If a Degree/Program is Approved for V.A. Benefits?

The list of V.A. approved programs/degrees at Lowy International School can be found here by selecting:

  • Israel (Jerusalem) under “Select Country”
  • Select Tel Aviv University from the list of institutions
  • Select “Programs” at the top right
  • Select Institution of Higher Learning under "Description"

If the degree that you wish to study is not listed, then V.A. benefits cannot be used for that program.

 

Can I Use My V.A. Benefits to Study a Distance Learning Course?

 

Distance learning (online) courses at foreign schools cannot be approved for V.A. Benefits, as explained here. U.S. students will not be able to use their V.A. Benefits to study on any of our distance learning degrees.

These restrictions are part of U.S. Law governing the use of V.A. Benefits, and neither Tel Aviv University, Lowy International School or the Veteran’s Affairs office are able to offer any flexibility in this matter.

 

How Much Can I borrow?

 

The maximum amount you can borrow will be calculated as the College's Cost of Attendance (COA) less any Expected Financial Aid (EFA) which includes scholarships, grants, and awards. V.A. I Need My U.S. Loans Deferred. What Should I Do?

 

If you have a form you need completed please email the Financial Services Team for assistance. This includes “In School Deferment Requests”.

 

What Other Sources of Funding Are Available to Me?

 

U.S. students may also be eligible for U.S. Federal Student Aid or private U.S. educational loans. GI Bill contributions will not count towards your Cost of Attendance when taking out U.S. Federal Aid.

What Is the Application Process?

 

For information about how to apply for V.A. education benefits, please see the V.A.’s website.

 

Once you have checked that your degree/program is approved for V.A. Benefits, you’ll need to contact the North America Financial Services Team and provide a copy of your most up-to-date V.A. Certificate of Eligibility (COE). This document will confirm the type of benefits you are eligible to receive, the duration of these benefits, and the level of support you’ll receive.

 

Once your COE has been provided to our office, the Financial Services Team will review your account and certify your awards with the V.A.. Once the review is completed, the Department of Veteran Affairs will either approve or deny our certification. They will also dictate how much funding the student will receive regardless of the amount that is placed on the certification request.
