Internships That Shape Futures

International undergraduate students gain valuable work experience during their studies at TAU

02 December 2024

TAU’s English-taught Management and Liberal Arts BA program prepares graduates for successful global careers by providing a solid foundation in management and entrepreneurship theory together with opportunities for receiving work experience through business internships. This practical training is integrated into the program curriculum and includes several career guidance sessions and 120 hours of work placements.

Students who have already completed their internships share their experiences.

For Ivan Yalov, who did his internship remotely at KPMG, juggling studies, volunteering, and internship was a difficult, yet rewarding experience:

“My spring semester was the busiest I’ve ever had, with about 25 credits of coursework and many additional hours spent organizing student events with the Lowy’s Student Life team. You need to understand how to work hard and how to manage your time.”

During the internship, Ivan’s main task was to do direct cash flow analysis for the mergers and acquisitions of different firms, which is a field perfectly aligned with his career plans:

“I want to go into investment banking or consulting, so experience at a Big Four consultancy is definitely helpful. It will make my CV stand out in the future.”

Currently, Ivan is doing an exchange semester at the Ross Business School, the University of Michigan, where he is taking several courses, including Economics of Environment, Strategy for Sustainable Development, and Finance, which will go towards his BA in Management degree at Tel Aviv University.

“Finance is the most complicated course, but also the most valuable because it focuses on choosing different assets for investment.”

After returning to Israel to finish his degree, Ivan is looking to do another internship at a capital market investment club in Tel Aviv.

BA student meeting at the beginning of the academic year

Kayla Goldberger, a third-year student, has already completed two internships in Israel, one at a small consulting firm in Herzliya that focuses on startups, and another one at a startup in Tel Aviv. This allowed her to better understand her work preferences and career aspirations.

“The internship at the consulting firm was an eye-opening experience and gave me important insights into the field.”

Previously, Goldberger had done a consulting internship in a large New York-based company after her first year at TAU. Working in a smaller-scale setting proved a completely different experience. “I guess I prefer the more structured environment of bigger companies,” she comments.

This summer, before starting her senior year at TAU, Goldberger joined a startup in Tel Aviv as a research intern. The startup uses AI to detect misinformation online and Goldberger’s role was to do client development work, write reports, and do research for various client needs. She also got an opportunity to try her hand at data testing and data analytics.

“I found the work to be very engaging and had a really great time there.”

The role was so much in line with Goldberger’s interests, that she might even continue with it as a full-time job. Although Goldberger found both internships on her own through networking, she feels that her studies have helped a lot:

“I was equipped through various university courses, including the Internship course to be able to build my connections, improve my LinkedIn profile, and find internships”
