"With a BA Management Degree from TAU, I Will Thrive in Changing Times"

International student talks about her transformative experiences at TAU

24 July 2024

Laura Serur, from Brazil, heard about the BA in Management and Liberal Arts at Tel Aviv University (TAU) from ambassadors who visited her school, Beit Yaacov, in Brazil. Hearing about how beautiful and lively Tel Aviv is, with its diverse culture and sea views, she was drawn to the city's life while still being able to pursue her academics.

“I chose a degree in management and liberal arts because it perfectly blends the humanities and sciences. The curriculum provides a good management foundation and allows me to study various liberal arts disciplines. Through this program, I immerse myself in the knowledge that will allow me to thrive in changing times,” comments Serur.

Towards a Career in Fashion

Although I am still in my first year, I am passionate about building a career in the fashion business, where I can combine my hobby with my professional aspirations. What draws me to a career in fashion is the industry's active environment, where creativity is highly valued. I’m passionate about design, trends, and artistic expression, so I think it’ll be a fulfilling career for me.

A degree that integrates business and social studies is ideal for achieving my career goals in the fashion business.

One of the greatest benefits of the program has been the incredible people I have met. The diversity at TAU is astounding – I have met students from many countries like Russia, Germany, the Netherlands, the USA, Italy, England, South Africa, and more.

It really helps me see different perspectives – which will definitely be good for my future career because fashion involves working with international brands and requires a good understanding of various cultural aesthetics.

Complex Subjects Can Be Fun–Who Knew?

The classes and professors have been highly engaging and inspiring. For instance, I initially had concerns about the economics classes in my management curriculum. However, having Ido Eisdorfer as my professor transformed economics into a fun and engaging subject. Despite the challenge of looking at numbers for almost two hours, the class environment is relaxed and interactive. We are encouraged to ask questions, engage in discussions, and enjoy lighthearted moments, making learning enjoyable.

I never imagined I would enjoy learning math so much, and despite my initial concerns, this class has become one of my favorites.

I am grateful to have started my major in communications in my first year, thanks to the extra credits I earned in the first semester. This early start allowed me to take a fascinating class called "From the Stone Age to the Information Age," taught by the amazing Noah Gedi. Her engaging teaching style made the class incredibly interesting.

Overall, the academic environment at TAU encourages critical thinking and really builds a love for learning.

Embracing the Spirit of TAU and Israel

As I finish my first year at TAU, I can say that it has been a transformative experience. I spent my first Yom Ha'atzmaut (Independence Day) in Israel, and I can assure you that I have never felt such energy before—a power of belonging and community.

I wish everyone could experience at least one Yom Ha'atzmaut in Israel and at TAU.

Every step has been rewarding, from discovering the program through school ambassadors to immersing myself in TAU's diverse and dynamic community. The Management and Liberal Arts program, in particular, perfectly fits my interests and goals.

The application and enrollment process for TAU was both challenging and nerve-wracking. As with any major application, I found myself feeling anxious and overwhelmed at times. Since TAU was my top choice, the stakes felt particularly high. However, despite these challenges, the application process was straightforward and easy to understand.

I appreciated the clear instructions and guidelines provided by the university.

Moreover, I felt very comfortable reaching out for assistance whenever I needed it. The coordinators, assistants, and other staff members at TAU were incredibly helpful and supportive, making the entire process much more manageable.

I am excited to continue my studies at TAU and look forward to the many opportunities and experiences ahead.
