Three TAU Students Attend the Prestigious 2024 Concordia Annual Summit in New York
The Concordia Annual Summit in New York is a prominent global affairs forum that brings leaders together to address pressing global challenges related to economic development, environmental sustainability, and human rights. The 2024 summit, Navigating a New Era, took place from September 23-25.
Thanks to a generous donation from Libra Philanthropies, and with support from The Lowy International School, three political science students from Tel Aviv University (TAU) were selected to attend and participate in the summit. Read about their experiences below.

What was your overall impression of the Concordia Annual Summit?
My overall impression of the Concordia Annual Summit was that it was a rare experience that helped me get outside of my personal struggles as an Israeli and as a student who is on active reserve duty, and to remember why I’m interested in the field of Political Science.
Which keynote speaker or panel discussion had the biggest impact on you and why?
During the conference I heard many interesting speeches and panels, however, the one that really caught my attention was that of the keynote speaker Roberta Metsola, the European Parliament president. It was refreshing to hear a modern politician who emphasizes being humble and understanding when in a position of power.
How did it feel to be part of such an important gathering and to be representing Tel Aviv University?
I was honored and deliberate when interacting with new people during the conference, knowing that it is a rare opportunity to be able to represent my country and university—especially during a time like this. I felt that it was important for there to be Israeli representation at the conference.
What was the most significant lesson or insight you gained during your time there?
During my time at the conference, I learned more about the type of politician or social activist that I would like to be. I saw that it is possible to be in positions of power and still be kind and caring.

Did you feel it was particularly important for there to be Israeli representation at this time?
Yes, I felt it was crucial to have Israeli representation, especially during this chaotic time marked by conflict both domestically and globally. There's a significant struggle against misinformation, and the Israeli narrative often doesn't receive adequate recognition. At first, we were hesitant to wear the yellow ribbon badge, but we quickly embraced it.
Which keynote speaker or panel discussion had the biggest impact on you and why?
The session on LGBTQIA+ Representation in Global Governments had the greatest impact on me. The panel’s focus on creating a “new table” rather than seeking inclusion in existing one was especially inspiring.

Paolo Rondelli, San Marino’s former head of state and the world’s first openly gay head of state, stood out for breaking barriers in global leadership.
What was the most significant lesson or insight you gained during your time there?
The conference restored my faith in politics as a tool for social responsibility and change. In today’s climate, saturated with fake news and populism that gradually seem to replace the truth, it’s easy to lose sight of this, but the conference provided me with renewed hope.

What was the most significant lesson or insight you gained during your time there?
I would say my biggest reminder that I received during my time at the summit was regarding the power of proper human dialogue and networking. There is just something different about being physically present and attending such a summit, which in turn gives a great opportunity to meet amazing people and gain a newfound optimism regarding the faith of the world.
Which keynote speaker or panel discussion had the biggest impact on you and why?
If I could choose one specific panel that stuck with me the most, it would have to be the one with the young cadets from West Point military academy. Their sheer integrity and professionalism radiated from them while they spoke, and it was quite uplifting to witness such focused and valiant young people.
Did you feel it was particularly important for there to be Israeli representation at this time?
Above all else, and especially during such tough times for the world and my country, I was honored to represent Israel. I believe that misinformation is something that is very prevalent nowadays, so I was glad that I had a chance to engage in genuine conversations with different people from around the world and remember what we have in common rather than what differentiates us.
