Housing at TAU

Some researchers and students* choose to live off-campus either in the center of the city or in the greater Tel Aviv area (called “Gush Dan”).

In Gush Dan, sharing a standard apartment with one to two roommates may cost more or the same as the dorms. Cities just outside of Tel Aviv, such as Ramat Gan and Giv’atayim, often have more affordable housing options.  It is recommended that you start your search at least several weeks before arrival.

Additionally, please remember to factor in commuting times. While living close to campus or in central Tel Aviv may cost more, it will reduce the amount of time you spend in traffic each day.

Typically, The Lowy International School does not assist with independent housing for students. However, we do provide some resources and advice below, as well as in a pre-arrival handbook that you will receive after you are confirmed in your program.

  • Some Study abroad and Exchange students might not permitted to live in independent housing. Check with your program coordinator for more information

 Real Estate Agents

Hiring a real estate agent to help you find an apartment can help take the stress out of housing hunting; however, before you seek an agent, please be aware that real estate agents charge a fee equivalent to the first month of rent.

 Guest Accommodations

For shorter stays, there are guest apartments offered by TAU’s dorm management company (guest apartments on campus). This option is available for a short duration only and that pricing is per night.

If you prefer to stay off campus, there are also many short-term accommodation options (e.g., hotels, Airbnb units) located in Tel Aviv.
