Frequently Asked Questions
What is a deep tech MBA, and how is it different from a traditional MBA?
A deep tech MBA is a business master's built around the founders, operators and investors moving hard-technology ventures from the lab to the market — companies in AI, quantum, climate tech, biotech, robotics and materials, where the moat is scientific or engineering-based.
Unlike a general MBA, which trains generalist managers across sectors, a deep tech MBA teaches how to evaluate technical defensibility, raise capital against long R&D timelines, and lead teams of research-trained specialists. At Tel Aviv University the Coller Deep Tech MBA sits inside Israel's densest deep-tech ecosystem, so every core case, faculty member and guest lecturer is drawn from that environment.
Who is the Coller Deep Tech MBA designed for?
The program is built for mid-career professionals already inside the high-tech industry — engineers, product leaders, corporate R&D managers, first-time founders and early-stage operators — who are moving from an individual-contributor or technical-lead role into founding, funding or leading a deep-tech company.
It is not a first-degree MBA for career-switchers, and it is not aimed at generalist consulting or banking tracks. Prior technical exposure is the common denominator across the cohort.
Can I keep working full-time while completing the MBA?
Yes, the format is designed for it. The program is delivered in a hybrid structure across two years with six intensive on-campus "peak weeks" per year, plus asynchronous and remote coursework between. Most students continue in their current roles throughout, using the peak weeks for immersion and the between-weeks periods for coursework, capstone work and applied projects on their own ventures.
What ventures and industries do Coller Deep Tech MBA graduates lead?
Graduates go into founder, co-founder and senior operator roles across AI infrastructure, climate and energy tech, autonomous systems, medical devices, cyber-defense, and materials science. Some join early-stage venture funds as investors or venture partners; others take deep-tech GM or CTO-adjacent positions inside larger technology companies.
Tel Aviv University ranked #7 globally and #1 in Israel in producing VC-backed founders (2025 PitchBook), and the Coller school's alumni network is a working part of the local investment ecosystem.
Why is Tel Aviv the right place to study deep tech?
Israel has the highest venture capital per capita of any country and the second-largest concentration of deep-tech companies outside Silicon Valley. Tel Aviv itself hosts the working operations of most of the local ecosystem — corporate R&D centers, seed and Series A funds, government innovation programs, and the founders they back.
Studying deep tech in Tel Aviv means the case studies are current, the guest lecturers still run the companies they're discussing, and the network you build during the program is the same network you'll draw on to raise capital, hire and sell.
