TAU International is proud to offer an Academic Gap Year (or Semester) program for students who are interested in exploring university life prior to joining a degree program either at TAU or elsewhere in the world. Our Gap Year program is not a traditionally structured Gap Year program; it is an independent program whereby Gap students are integrated with the rest of our year or semester long university study abroad programs for coursework and activities, but also receive extra support from our experienced 24/7 Student Life Team.
In addition to exploring university coursework, during your time with us you will also be able to experience Israel with fellow study abroad students during evening cultural and social activities, as well as several exciting overnight trips:
- Northern Israel: visit Carmiel, on the northern edge of the beautiful Galilee; Kiryat Shmona, surrounded by beautiful green expanses; and the Kinneret, where you can melt in the hot springs.
- Southern Israel: spend a few nights in the Negev and Eilat. Sip sweet tea in historic Bedouin tents, let a camel take you on a tour, give a dolphin a high five, and float away in the Dead Sea.
- Jerusalem day trip: explore history in the Western Wall Tunnel Tour, feast on great schwarma in the Old City, and put a personal note in the Western Wall.
Students are housed in fully furnished student housing (if you choose to live on campus, which is not required). Our student housing includes a 24-hour security and supportive Student Life Team members called Madrichim (similar to Resident Assistants). A warm and inclusive community is formed within the dorms; students often hold potluck dinners, afternoon coffee breaks, late night discussions, and birthday gatherings.
In addition, the TAU campus is known for its active student life, with an extensive offering of clubs and athletic associations to join and regular cultural events.
Tel Aviv University is a great place to “get your feet wet” in university life – taking interesting university courses, participating in enriching cultural activities, and having the chance to make lifelong international and Israeli friends. In addition, should students wish to stay on after their year with us and join our TAU BA or BSC undergraduate degree programs – or any other university degree program around the world - our team is happy to help advise students on the process of applying to a degree program and transferring your Gap Year TAU credits earned to a degree program.
What are you waiting for? Come explore Tel Aviv and university life with us – all while earning university level credit!
