TAU and the World

What would The Lowy International School be without our international partners? We are extremely proud of those with whom we work and innovate.

Here’s a highlight reel of some recent collaborative visits and developments!

North America

We are extremely proud to be the first Israeli institution to become a member of Diversity Abroad; headquartered in California, the organization is a leading consortium of education institutions, government agencies and for-profit and non-profit organizations committed to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion work and helping younger generations from marginalized and underrepresented backgrounds thrive.

Additionally, we recently signed a new study abroad agreement with Brown University, enjoyed a visit to see our friends at the University of Toronto, and hosted delegations here on campus, including from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, five Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) institutions and New York University.

Finally, we attended the annual Association of International Educators (NAFSA) conference, which coincided with the 75th anniversaries of both Israel and NAFSA. During the course of the conference, we held approximately 50 meetings with existing and future partners from around the world and represented Tel Aviv University (TAU) at the Israeli booth, where we showcased the unique educational and research opportunities that TAU offers.

In May, with great success and attendance, we held Mexico International Week on campus, which included a series of lectures and events related to the culture of Mexico, as well as on Mexico-Israel relations. We’ve also worked with our partners IDOMED in Brazil and Juventudes GTO in Mexico to bring fully funded students to TAU and launch a new partnership program with ORT University in Uruguay.

Additionally, we recently welcomed a delegation from Anáhuac Querétaro University and a delegation of Ecuadorian rectors, and enjoyed our own visit to Brazil, where we toured the new research and education building at the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein as well as major innovation and tech centers at the University of São Paulo, and met with partners such as the Link School of Business.

Europe

We are excited to announce a new joint degree program with Sciences Po Lille in France, through which students gain two Master’s (MA) degrees by spending one year on each campus. Students from Sciences Po Lille will take the Peace, Humanitarian Action and Development MA and, at TAU, they can choose between the Conflict Resolution and Mediation, Migration Studies or Sustainable Development MA options.

We were also delighted to recently welcome a delegation of Max Planck Institute leaders and to open a call for staff exchange with our Erasmus European partners, through which 15 recipients were chosen. In other exciting news, TAU Ventures recently launched a joint R&D pilot project with Anheuser-Busch InBev, in which six Israeli startups will be selected to help address some of AB InBev’s business challenges.

Middle East, Euro-Asia, and Africa

We were honoured back in May to welcome Ambassador of Azerbaijan Mukhtar Mammadov and Azerbaijan Deputy Foreign Minister Fariz Rzayev to Tel Aviv University, where they delivered speeches as part of an expert roundtable hosted by the Moshe Dayan Center. We were also pleased to welcome in June, Ambassador of Tanzania Alex Gabriel Kalua, and, in July, the Turkish Ambassador Şakir Özkan Torunlar.

Additionally, we very much enjoyed welcoming to TAU eight students from Turkey and Morrocco, who came for two months over a semester as part of a grant from the Ministry of Regional Cooperation.

Asia and Pacific

In May, we were privileged to welcome the Senior Minister of Singapore Tharman Shanmugaratnam to TAU, where he was awarded the George Wise Medal for his significant public service career, including as the first Asian representative to chair the International Monetary and Financial Committee. Read more about Mr. Shanmugaratnam’s work, as well as the work of this year’s other honorary TAU doctorate recipients. We were additionally pleased, in connection with the 2023 TAU Board of Governors meeting and the announcement of honorary doctorate recipients, to attend an evening at the Australia Embassy of Israel.

We also enjoyed welcoming the associate provost of Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore) along with a delegation from Singapore academic and government as part of a Israel-Singapore workshop within TAU’s annual Cyber Week; and were happy in May to receive executive delegations from Maruti Suzuki India and India’s Automobile Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA) and to partake in conversations regarding R&D cooperation and sponsored research.
