IAS Lecture: The Role of AI in Enabling Smart Electromagnetic Environments

Can artificial intelligence turn ordinary electromagnetic environments into smart, adaptive systems?

The Institute of Advanced Studies invites you to the lecture by Professor Andrea Massa from the Department of Civil, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering at University of Trento, Italy.

Professor Massa is visiting Tel Aviv University as part of the IAS Distinguished Scholars series 2025–2026.

Professor Massa will deliver a lecture titled “The Role of AI in Enabling Smart Electromagnetic Environments (SEMEs).” Smart Electromagnetic Environments (SEMEs) represent a rapidly emerging frontier in next-generation communication, sensing, and electromagnetic control. By integrating artificial intelligence with reconfigurable and adaptive electromagnetic structures, SEMEs aim to enable dynamic propagation shaping, enhanced wireless connectivity, and intelligent signal optimization.

In this lecture, Professor Massa will explore the fundamental principles behind SEMEs, highlight recent breakthroughs in AI-driven electromagnetic design, and discuss the transformative impact these systems may have on future wireless technologies. Drawing on leading research conducted at the University of Trento and international collaborations, he will outline both the practical challenges and the profound opportunities presented by AI-enabled electromagnetic environments.

When: December 4, 2025 | 9:30 am

Where: Broadcom Building, Auditorium 001

Light refreshments will be served before the lecture.

The lecture will be conducted in English and is open to the public.
