Students from Canada

Hi my name is Gal Benayon. I always wanted to study in Israel and when I heard about the incredible opportunity to study abroad at Tel Aviv University I did not hesitate to apply. My time in Tel Aviv was amazing. The courses I took were very insightful and I learned so much about the history of Tel Aviv. My teachers were very knowledgeable in the subjects they taught and I had an amazing Ulpan (Hebrew) teacher. The best part of my studies was the people I met and the memories I made while in Israel. The great thing about the program was the trips we went on set up by the counsellors or (Madrichim) who made sure that all of us had fun. Some memorable trips we went on were trips to Yafo, trips to the north, as well as trips to the Dead Sea. My time at Tel Aviv University was incredible and I cannot wait to go back.

Summer 2015

This past summer, I followed my heart back to Israel and found myself studying in the Ulpan program at Tel Aviv University. Learning Hebrew has always been a goal of mine, and TAU really made it possible. After only a few hours of class-time with two of the most dedicated and helpful teachers I have ever had, I was reading street signs in the city and introducing myself in Hebrew to new friends at the beach. This program allowed me to gain a deeper understanding and love of Israel as a student living in the heart of one of the world’s most diverse and exciting cities. During time off, there were group trips to the North and Jerusalem which allowed me to meet other students, practice my Hebrew, and tour regions of the country that I hadn’t yet been to. This was an experience that changed my life and has opened many new doors for my future. Thanks, TAU!

My name is Gideon Bell. I am from London, Canada, and am a third-year student at the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Law. I participated in a four month student exchange at the Buchmann Faculty of Law at Tel-Aviv University. From innovative English course options taught by internationally renowned legal scholars to the bustling nightlife and beautiful beaches in Tel-Aviv, my experience was unforgettable. I believe that it is important for every individual to step out of their comfort zone and experience a new culture and way of life. The City of Tel-Aviv and the country of Israel provide the opportunity for cultural learning with all the comfort, safety and familiarity that goes with life back home. Tel-Aviv University and the country of Israel provided me a unique playground to explore and become immersed in history, religion, politics, geography and science.

Meet Erin O'rourke, In addition to her course work and Hebrew Ulpan, during her Study Abroad semester at TAU last Spring also spent time volunteering at Save A Child's Heart. Save A Child's Heart: I volunteered with this amazing organization, Save a Child's Heart. Once a week I went to Holon and played with the children while they are either waiting for surgery or recovering from their surgery and waiting to go home. I also found it interesting that gender norms are left outside the gates. If the boys want their nails painted, so be it. If the girls want to play with trucks, there is no judgement. It is a very unique atmosphere and I had a lot of fun playing with these amazing little kids.

My time at TAU last summer was eye-opening to say the least. After Birthright, I knew I wanted to go back to Israel, and doing a summer abroad gave me the perfect taste of Tel Aviv life. The campus is beautiful, the classes are engaging, and the trips organized by the madrichim are a great way to explore the country and to get to know the other students from around the world. Most importantly, TAU offered the perfect balance of structure and freedom. The support they give allows you to feel comfortable and safe in a new city, all the while encouraging you to be independent and to step out of your comfort zone. There are few experiences more valuable than exploring a city across the world on your own, and a summer abroad at TAU is a perfect way to discover the amazing treasures Tel Aviv has to offer. The city is extraordinarily rich in history and culture, and I have TAU to thank for giving me the opportunity to fall in love with Tel Aviv.

“Doing a semester abroad at Tel Aviv University was probably one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had. Not only was it an incredible learning experience, it was also a great way to meet and create long lasting friendships with people from all over the world. The Overseas Student Program organized various trips throughout Israel, ranging from day trips in Jerusalem, and various other cities, to weekend long trips, in both the Northern and Southern Regions of Israel. The trips are a great way to explore the country, while either sightseeing, hiking in one of the many forests or deserts, swimming in hot springs, and ultimately being completely embedded in Israeli culture.

Aside from traveling throughout the country, living in Tel Aviv was an experience on it’s own; the city is constantly bustling with people, day and night, and there is always something to do, and somewhere new to go. Whether you go to one of the assortments of restaurants, or to the Shuk H’Carmel, the food is always fresh, flavorful, and utterly delicious. Also, not only are the bars and clubs always packed and bumping, there is practically a holiday every other weekend, and every holiday in Israel is accompanied by a street festival or celebration! You will NEVER run out of things to do, or people to meet, or sights to see!

All in all, my semester at Tel Aviv University was the experience of a lifetime, and nothing will match the cultural, educational, and adventurous experience I had.  I’m positive you will have it too, if and when, you decide to study at TAU! “

“Probably similar to all students embarking on a study abroad program, I was afraid and uncertain what to expect.  A new country, six months away from home, going outside of my comfort zone, leaving my family, and making new friends.... I did my research and was reassured to learn that the university I was going to study in offered international programs, and students from all over the world come to Tel Aviv for a few months up to a semester (Fall, Spring or Summer) to take a variety of programs.  Many come to learn Hebrew (Ulpan program) or Arabic, Israel’s official languages. Others come to study academic courses, such as History, Political Science, Philosophy and Business Entrepreneurship.

My experience exceeded all expectations.  I had the time of my life, and was confronted with new experiences every day, which I shared with the most incredible people.  I had planned to stay only one semester, but I was soon begging my parents to allow me to stay the entire year.

I am not trying to convince anyone to take the same path I took; however, I do wish to reassure you that despite the very understandable fear of the unknown, you would feel right at home in Tel Aviv.”
