Students applying to study at Tel Aviv University's overseas program through any one of our offices are also strongly encouraged to seek external (non-TAU) sources of funding.

Some possible sources include, but are not limited to:

  • The Natalie Shaltiel Scholarship for American Students: The Natalie Shaltiel Scholarship for undergraduate American Students has been endowed by an extraordinary woman who survived the Holocaust, living on to contribute greatly to mankind through her work in the field of microbiology and immunology as well as through her example of being a great human being. Natalie Shaltiel set up this scholarship because of her wish to give American students a profound understanding of life in Israel. She believed that could only happen by living and studying there.

    Students may apply by sending an essay discussing their motivation for studying at Tel Aviv University along with the most recent family tax returns to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . This scholarship is both merit and need based.

  • The Government of Israel and the Jewish Agency have launched a major new project which provides scholarship assistance to young Jewish adults who study in Israel in long-term educational programs. Please go to http://www.masaisrael.org/masa/english/ for information.
  • Plant Your Way to Israel allows you to fund your trip to Israel while helping Israel and JNF at the same time. The program is simple. Ask your friends and family to plant trees with JNF (minimum donation $36). Half of this money will support JNF’s forestry projects in Israel, and the other half will be placed in a special account for you, to be used for any trip to Israel.   • We wish to bring to your attention ATZUM's Abe and Gert Nutkis Scholarship Fund for study in Israel. Applications are currently being considered for students planning to study in Israel during the academic year 2011-2012. Students who receive a scholarship will be required to volunteer during their year in Israel as part of an ATZUM project or with an ATZUM approved project. Please find further guidelines here.
  • Your study-abroad office, Middle Eastern Studies Department, or Jewish Studies Department.
  • For qualified students who are enrolled in the program, internship opportunities are available at the Moshe Dayan Center for Middle Eastern and African Studies. Visit www.dayan.org for more information.

 

  • The American Jewish League for Israel

The American Jewish League for Israel (AJLI) offers scholarships for a full year of study in Israel (no short term summer ulpan or nativ type programs). The scholarships can be for graduate or undergraduate students. One must be a US citizen to apply. You must apply by May 1, 2011 for the 2011-2012 academic year. There is no age restriction for this scholarship. Required forms to complete and submit can be found on our website at www.americanjewishleague.org

  • AZM Helyn B. Reich Scholarship

Each year, the American Zionist Movement (AZM) grants Helyn B. Reich Scholarships to a limited number of American students who have been accepted and will attend one of several designated Israeli universities for a year or semester (preference given to full-year students). The Helyn B. Reich Memorial Scholarship seeks to honor candidates who demonstrate past pro-Israel activity and a commitment to future involvement with Israel and the Jewish community. Financial need will also be considered, though more emphasis will be placed on achievements. Recipients of the Helyn B. Reich Scholarship will be expected to remain involved with the American Zionist Movement following their return to the United States. The scholarship is named in memory of the wife of a past AZM president whose daughter studied at Tel Aviv University and now lives in Israel. The application deadline is May 1.

  • Your home school's Hillel and Hillel's Leadership Scholarship Program in Israel (call 202-857-6525).
  • The Yiddish Summer Program - Tuition assistance provided to qualified students by the Goldreich Family Institute for Yiddish Language, Literature, and Culture. Students must be enrolled in the TAU International program.
The Schusterman Israel Scholar Awards are open to U.S. citizens who are interested in academic careers related to Israel studies. $10,000 awards will be available to undergraduates who have already been accepted to a graduate program, graduate students who have received master’s degrees in Middle East related fields who wish to pursue a doctorate and doctoral students who are writing dissertations related to Israel. Proposals from candidates in all disciplines are welcome.

  • Veterans Affairs- Enrolled graduate students on the MA Program in Middle Eastern History may apply for GI Bill benefits or VA Tuition Assistance. The Certification Form must be completed by the applicant and sent to the Office of Academic Affairs for certification and processing.
